Handmade Jewelry 101
Always be gentle with your handmade pieces. Each piece is a unique creation made with care.
Below are specific care instructions based on the metals used. I use materials that are hypoallergenic and tarnish resistant to maximize quality while keeping the price point accessible.
Stainless steel
To keep your stainless steel jewelry looking its best, regularly clean it with a soft cloth and mild soapy water to remove dirt and oils. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely to prevent water spots. For extra shine, use a jewelry polishing cloth or a stainless steel cleaner.
Stainless steel jewelry is water-resistant and won’t rust or tarnish easily, so it’s safe to get wet. However, to keep it looking its best, dry it thoroughly after exposure to water, especially saltwater or chlorinated water, as these can cause dullness over time.
Stainless steel is considered hypoallergenic because it contains minimal amounts of nickel, especially in high-quality grades like 316L or 304 stainless steel.

Gold Plated
Keep your gold-plated jewelry looking its best by gently cleaning it with a soft cloth and mild soapy water. Avoid harsh chemicals, perfumes, and sweat to prevent fading. Store it in a dry place, away from other jewelry, to minimize scratches. With a little care, your pieces will stay shiny and beautiful!
It's best to keep gold-plated jewelry dry. Water, especially saltwater and chlorine, can cause the thin gold layer to wear off faster. If it does get wet, gently pat it dry with a soft cloth to help preserve its shine and longevity.
Most of my gold plated pieces have a stainless steel base to reduce the risk of allergic reactions. Peices with a brass base are tarnish resistant but may not be hypoallergenic depending on the thickness of the plating

Gold Filled
Keep your gold-filled jewelry shining by cleaning it with mild soapy water and a soft cloth. Store it separately in a dry place to prevent scratches. A polishing cloth is safe to use on gold-filled jewelry and can help restore its shine. Just be gentle to avoid wearing down the gold layer over time. Regular light polishing will keep your jewelry looking beautiful without damaging the finish.
Gold-filled jewelry can get wet and is more durable than gold-plated jewelry. However, to keep it looking its best, avoid prolonged exposure to water, especially in pools or the ocean, as chemicals and salt can cause dullness over time. After getting wet, dry it thoroughly with a soft cloth.
Gold filled jewelry is generally hypoallergenic because the gold layer is much thicker than gold plating, and is less likely to wear off and expose any potential allergens.
